5 Questions with Alenka

What is your Artistic Style?

Abstract Expressionism - where intuition plays an important role in my process. Working in acrylic, oil and mixed media, my paintings are characterised by textured loose brushstrokes, irregular floating shapes, blocks and pops of bright against chromatic and neutral colours.

What is your background?

After gaining recent recognition for my colour technique with the widely acclaimed dip-dye candles for clients all over Europe, I returned to my roots as a painter, in which I cultivated my skills at the National Art School in Australia in the early 2000s. My artistic perspective focuses on a passion for design and lifestyle products, in which I have worked for many design labels over my career.

What inspires your creative process?

I find inspiration in arranging colours, exploring combinations of hues, and experimenting with the interplay of warm and cool tones. I enjoy visiting and revisiting the design principles, drawing insights from gallery visits here in Europe to study the works of masters, and discovering talented contemporary artists through platforms like Instagram.

What else do you love besides painting?

Collecting art and design books (and organising them!) and photographing beautiful old doors with a patina here in Germany.

What is your vision for your work?

Continuing my pursuit of making something beautiful for interiors, I would love to see my paintings in interior magazines here in Europe, boutique hotels and beautiful contemporary ‘hygge’ style homes of lovely people :-)
